Circa CMG Crew

I made a quick trip out to Las Vegas NV to meet a friend and enter the Fourth Edition of the Circa Millions contest. I have mentioned it before and have been a little sheepish about this contest, as it currently offers a huge overlay to those who have already entered. It sure would be fun if that overlay actually happened. Anyway, here’s the current overlay status. A little over $2.5 million as I bust out this post. I have fantasies of becoming a wealthy Russian oligarch.

We are the CMG Crew, as denoted in the accompanying photo. Five of the biggest action-loving degenerates you would ever want to meet! This is our third attempt at taking down the fabulous cash prizes offered by this contest. The first year we were in and out of the money all season, finishing just barely out of the money. It is not easy to win. Last year the winning entry picked 70% correct against the spread.

Why CMG Crew? Good question. And an even better answer! About 15 years ago, I was visiting my folks in Central Indiana. My dad has always had the morning paper delivered, so growing up I got accustomed to reading the daily news. On this particular visit, the Sunday morning paper was delivered, and you know how Sunday papers are, chock full of special features and advertisements.

The special feature expose in this edition was the growing gang problem in this medium-size Midwestern town. The article went on to list the antics of the young gangsters, which sounded a whole lot like general teenage mischief and angst – kind of like this. They were not running dice games, street corner crack sales or prostitution rings. The protagonists in this story were just trying to grift up some public funds to fight this mostly non-existent problem, while also lining their pockets.

Anyway, the article went on to list a few names of the active street gangs in the area. One of those gangs called themselves the Certified Money Getters. Well, I thought that was about the coolest name I have ever heard, so adopted it out of mad respect.

Unfortunately for our entry, the name is too long to include on our contest card, so we shortened it to CMG Crew. But make no mistake, we are the Certified Money Getters and we are coming for your money and your daughters and your property!

Many very sharp professional bettors enter this contest. As do thousands of contestants who are considered Dead Money. Which is to say, the dead money has no chance of winning. But that’s just arrogance and ego being thrown around by the “experts.” Just ask Chris Moneymaker about being dead money in the World Series of Poker.
