Winning Wipeout Game Play

We introduced the Wipeout Game in the Advanced Content section. We had a game last night that not only went against the team we discussed in the article, the Golden State Warriors, but the underdog won straight up. This is important for a few reasons.

The Golden State Warriors were pounded at home by the visiting LA Lakers on Christmas Day, as 9-point home favorites. This was even the game where LeBron received his groin injury and sat out the last third of the contest.

Well, the oddsmakers again made the Golden State Warriors 9.0-point favorites hosting the Portland Trailblazers on December 27, 2018. This contest would absolutely have been in all the gambler’s parlays and teasers and would have been bet straight up against the spread and on the moneyline. If the gamblers got this game right, the books would have been a big loser for the day.

This is why this play fit the Wipeout Game criteria perfectly. Let’s go back and look at how lopsided this game became…

There were not many games played on December 27. There were three college football bowl games, and 13 hockey games, but hockey is bet fairly lightly. There is often more money bet on a single NBA game than on the entire hockey slate. There was no NFL football, nor was there any college basketball to bet (there was one game between Missouri – Kansas City and Creighton, but not all sportsbooks offered this contest).

SportsInsights.com shows us the Golden State Warriors were playing the late game of the night. They were opened as 9.0-point favorites, By game time, some books had moved the line DOWN to -8.5. SportsInsights.com also shows us that at game time, 67% of the spread bets were on the Warriors…and some books still moved the line DOWN, a clear indication of Reverse Line Movement.

Oddsmakers knew they did their job, getting the majority of the gamblers on the wrong side of the line. We also see that 65% of the moneyline bets were made on the Warriors. As 9.0- point favorites on the point spread and with nearly two-thirds of the moneyline bets on the Warriors, the sportsbooks stood to gain a windfall, should the Warriors lose the contest straight up.

Final Score: Portland Trailblazers 110 Golden State Warriors 109 in Overtime
Result: Wipeout – except for those of us on the right side of the Wipeout Game – see the ticket posted with this article.
