Let’s Chat About College Football Week 0 and Week 1

I’m a college football and college hoops fan and bettor. I will dabble in some of the Dark Arts like NFE and NBE, a little MLB, and whatever else might pique my interest, but my traditional betting season opens with college football and closes with college hoops. And for true degenerate action, I love the ponies. Don’t want to ride one, certainly don’t want to own one, but hell YES, I will bet on them! Even had a part-time job taking horse bets at Ellis Park. I promise to cover future Triple Crown degeneracy!

People ask, “Who is your favorite team?” I always answer truthfully, without the slightest hesitation, “Whichever team covers the spread.” The inquisitor screws up his or her face thinking I am messing with them. I’m not. I bet on this stuff. I am a fan of the sport. I am not a fan of any particular team. As a betting man, I do not need to allow petty fan allegiance into my thought and handicapping process. Really, I am a fan of the sport. There are, however, teams I loathe. But I can bet on them just as easily as I can bet against them.

I told you all that so I can tell you this…Here we are, on the brink of the 2022 College Football Season.

I handicap college football, beginning at the end of the prior season. Handicapping really gets kicked-off (pun INTENDED) with the publication and purchase of the Phil Steele Bible. AND catching up to what Bill Connelly has to say on the Evil Empire (ESPN+), behind the paywall…but worth it if you want to read up on what a truly knowledgeable expert thinks. There are many other resources but if you have perused this site, you likely have found out about many of them.

Yeah so, about that. Who knows, really? We go through our check downs – Steele Bible, Bill Connelly, and SP+, Bleacher Report, Covers, Massey Ratings, various talking heads, whatever else we deem important, but NEVER Daily Wager…talk about the Kiss Of Death. At some point we gotta trust the process and start making some wagers. But we are not going in blind. We have DATA! We have analysis!

So, check out what I have done on the Best Bets page. These are not guesses but may seem like guesses because it is still betting on the outcome of young men between the ages of 18 and 22-ish AND the whims of the officials.

What I have tried to represent here is the Number I bet somewhere, between the Opening Circa Number and the Closing Circa Number. I am using Circa because it is the sharpest book in the Milky Way Galaxy. Some of the numbers may seem like sheer fallacy – like the 209 Oregon 210 Georgia Open and what I bet, but these are the numbers I have, as they have fluctuated. For the intrepid, indeed I AM betting a middle here. Middles are difficult to hit, but I am guaranteed to win at least one of these wagers. Win both and I am a demi-god among men.
